'Love Where We Live' concept art

The ‘Love Where We Live’ series was meant to emphasize loving our neighbor and, therefore, loving our community. I overlaid a silhouette vector image of the downtown Columbus skyline on a street map of Columbus with a map icon. I wanted a more generic representation of Columbus to signify all of central Ohio without losing the familiarity of “home.” The street map and map icon were accepted, but the focus shifted north to center on the church’s location.

'We Stand Firm' concept art
Concept art for ‘We Stand Firm’ featuring an abstract mountain view with low-hanging clouds. This idea is meant to lean into the haze of confusion or uncertainty (low-hanging clouds), but we’re standing on solid ground (mountains). The uncertainty will pass, leaving courage behind.
Concept art for 'Holding It All Together'
Concept art for ‘Holding It All Together’ depicting a cracked wall running through a heart with a title treatment designed to look like duct tape. The concept is meant to convey the use of ‘quick fixes’ to address a much deeper problem. They may work for a while, but it’s not a permanent fix.
Concept art for 'We Stand Again'

Concept art. Modern title treatment for message series, ‘We Stand Again,’ featuring an AI-generated crumbling wall with flowers. The artwork is meant to depict that beautiful things can grow from the brokenness of our lives.

Concept art for 'Fruit That Will Last'

Concept art for ‘Fruit That Will Last’ featuring a customized label on an orange with a message title and primary scripture text. This concept was intentionally designed to be a bit lighthearted for a message series with a heavy theme while also leaning on the reality that earthly fruit does not last; only heavenly fruit does. The message series was renamed ‘We Remain.’

Easter artwork

Artwork for the Easter sermon series featuring a sunrise with clouds overlaid on title text. The Easter artwork matches the Good Friday artwork. The Good Friday artwork is dark and ominous, yet features brightly colored text that represents hope. The Easter artwork shows the hope of sunrise, while the text is overlaid with clouds, representing the lingering grief felt by those who don’t yet know that He has risen.

Artwork for 'The Story We Tell'

Artwork for ‘The Story We Tell’ featuring an image of a group of people conversing at a kitchen table overlaid with quotation marks. The background is meant to feel like a journal and features scripture quotes.

Concept art for 'The Story We Tell'

Long conversations often happen over a cup of coffee. This concept art was designed with that in mind. While this design was ultimately rejected, it was a worthwhile exercise for improving my Photoshop skills.

Artwork for 'What Makes Us'

Our core values are the foundation of who we are as individuals and as a community — it’s our DNA. The original title for this message series was simply ‘Our Core Values.’ I suggested a rename to ‘What Makes Us’ when I developed this art as a concept.

social media assets

Monthly promo about upcoming church events, designed as a seamless image carousel for Instagram and Facebook. Each month featured a unique and eye-catching background. The post was pinned to the page for easy access and reference.

I designed the artwork for Good Friday and Easter to tell the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection from the point of view of His disciples and followers. The Good Friday artwork is dark and ominous with brightly colored text, representing hope. The Easter artwork shows the hope of sunrise, while the text is overlaid with clouds, representing the lingering grief felt by those who don’t yet know that He has risen.
The Sunday invite is designed to reach those who may not feel comfortable attending church, or who may not feel welcome at church due to past choices or mistakes. The images are black & white to emphasize what was (feelings of loneliness, etc.), with the final image in color to represent what could be (hope, acceptance).

My name is

Kristie McGlaughlin

Good design is about more than making things “look pretty.” It’s about helping people understand, connect, and take action.

I’ve been designing communication systems almost by accident ever since I was 19. A handful of ads needed to be created for our college newspaper. The deadline was looming, and because I knew the software, I volunteered to help. To my surprise, I loved it! There was something deeply satisfying about taking someone’s ideas, goals, and information and shaping them into something both clear and engaging.

Since then, I’ve partnered with organizations to create communication systems across print and digital media. My twenty-three years at Worthington Christian Church stretched me in new ways while providing me the opportunity to be part of something greater than myself. During my tenure there, I learned that whether I’m designing a website, producing a publication, or collaborating with stakeholders on a communication campaign, I genuinely enjoy bringing structure to complex information and transforming ideas into clear, effective communication.
